Ornamental Tree and Shrub Program
At Turf Shield, Inc, we understand that managing a landscape is more than just lawn care. In providing a one-stop-shop for all your lawn and turf solutions, we also care for your ornamental trees and shrubs, such as Azaleas, Hydrangeas, Hollys, and Junipers.
Here in Georgia, there are a lot of diseases and pests that can harm or even kill your ornamental trees and shrubs if you aren’t paying attention. Our ornamental tree and shrub program incorporates seven applications of balanced fertilizer, pesticide, and fungicide blends that can easily be customized to each customer’s individual needs. These treatments promote healthy growth while preventing damage and disease, no matter what the season.
Dormant Oil Applications
Dormant oil is a safe substance applied to the trunks and branches of your ornamental trees and shrubs to prevent insects like aphids, beetles, caterpillars, and mites from overwintering there and causing big problems for you in the spring. As a member of the community, we care about your lawn decor. Our team understands that your ornamental trees and shrubs are a valuable part of your landscape and the environment. That’s why we are dedicated to taking great care of your ornamental trees and shrubs by protecting them all year from pests and diseases.
Deep Root Fertilization
Much like your lawn and grass, proper fertilization is the key to providing your ornamental trees and shrubs with strong and healthy roots. Unlike the ornamental trees and plants in a forest that receive nutrients from the various branches, twigs, and leaves that fall to the ground, those surrounding your house must compete with grass and other vegetation. A well-blended fertilization is used to help provide these missing nutrients and increase their resistance to injury from disease and harmful insects. Our spring and fall ornamental tree and shrub fertilization will protect your ornamental trees’ health, create denser, more luxuriant foliage, and extend the overall life of your ornamental trees and shrubs.
Aphids
Small, soft-bodied insects with long legs and antennae, aphids have slender mouthparts they use to pierce stems and leaves to suck out fluids. As they feed, they produce a large amount of a sticky fluid called honeydew. This fluid attracts ants and creates mold growth on the leaves. Heavy infestations of aphids can cause leaves to turn yellow and stunt plant growth. They can also transmit viruses from plant to plant on certain vegetables, creating tons of financial damage to crops. Azaleas and crepe myrtles are especially susceptible to aphids.
